Railway Facts !





*The world's oldest railway station built for steam locomotives still in use is Broad Green railway station in Liverpool, which was built in 1830.
*The world's busiest passenger station, in terms of daily passenger throughput, is Shinjuku  Station in Tokyo. The station was used by an average of 3.64 million people per day in 2007.
*In terms of platform capacity, the world's largest station by platforms is Grand Central Terminal in New York City with 44 platforms
*The first recognised rail service was on the Swansea & Mumbles railways which started in 1807 in u.k.
* The longest platform in the world is Kharagpur station in West Bengal, India: at 1072 m (3517 ft) India.
*On April 16, 1853, the first passenger train between Bori Bunder, Bombay and Thane covering a distance of 34 km was inaugurated, formally heralding the birth of railways in India. And then the first passenger railway line in North India opened from Allahabad and Kanpur on March 3, 1859. This was followed in 1889, by the Delhi - Ambala - Kalka line.
